We are honoured to announce Indigenous Veteran Di Ryder OAM as one of our speakers.

Di was recently Inducted into the WA Womens Hall of Fame. In 2023 she was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM). In 2017 was awarded the National NAIDOC Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2009 received the Perth NAIDOC Outstanding Achievement Award and the City of Swan Active Citizenship Award.

Since 2014, Di has been President of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Veterans & Services Western Australia.

Di leads the Indigenous Veterans Commemoration Service with the assistance of the Department of Veterans Affairs, Perth Legacy and the RAAF Association of WA.

The Indigenous Veterans Commemoration Service is held at the Flame of Remembrance, the State War Memorial Kings Park during Reconciliation Week and is attended by the Governor of Western Australia, MPs, the Aboriginal and wider Veteran Community, and hundreds of school children from across the metropolitan area.

We look forward to Di Ryder OAM contribution to our Indigenous Service and warmly invite ALL peoples of Boorloo- Perth to attend.

Join us at the Supreme Court Gardens in Perth City for this special service.

Ngala Maumahara is an opportunity for indigenous service people to commemorate and honour ANZAC Day in a culturally appropriate way that acknowledges the contribution of both Aboriginal and Maori people to the armed services of Australia and New Zealand. All are welcome at this event.

Following the service, we invite you to stay and enjoy live music and food trucks.

Haka For Life is excited to open our expressions of interest for those wanting to join us for the 2023 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras on Oxford Street, Sydney, NSW – Saturday, February 25th 2023.

We warmly invite those that identify as Takatāpui, LGBTQIA+, Pride allies and their families to apply.

This is our 4th time involved in Mardi Gras, with our last participation being in 2021 when we were awarded the Best Choreography for the whole parade.

Mardi Gras is a part of Sydney WorldPride 2023! This is a historic event that thousands of people from around the world will be in Sydney celebrating! We feel blessed to be a part of the festivities! 

With all our entries to Mardi Gras, we honour Indigenous First Nations & Tribes Corroboree of the Darug Nation & others, along with Maori Haka as the foundation of our expression and involvement.

Our theme for 2023

To inspire conversations on the topic of men’s mental health this International Men’s Day, performers from Haka For Life took to Sydney’s tallest and most unique stage, SKYWALK at The Sydney Tower Eye to perform Ngati Toa Rangatira Haka, Ka Mate, a celebration of life over death.

Haka for Life were joined today by Karl Wickey, a Sydney-based, Wiradjuri man, to encourage a powerful conversation about men’s mental health.

Commenting on the importance of recognising International Men’s Day, Leon Ruri, Founder and Creator of Haka For Life, said, “Many men live in silence, struggling to communicate with those around them, this struggle often challenges them to understand the positive meaning of life. Silence does not exist when Haka is performed. It requires a man’s vulnerability to truly express himself, but in doing so, makes him incredibly powerful in his communication to others.

“Today’s opportunity to showcase two of the world’s oldest surviving cultures above Sydney, was very special. Performing on the Gadigal Land of the Dharug Nation, in front of Sydney’s magical backdrop was a great honour and something we will never forget,” added Ruri.
